Discovery亚洲网络的“新锐导演计划” 于1995年在欧洲首次推出。在亚洲之前，“新锐导演计划”曾分别在南非、德国、英国、荷兰和澳大利亚等地推展。许多以往的参加者如今已成为独当一面的纪实片导演。

　　1995年 – Discovery探索频道“新锐导演计划”在欧洲首次推出，当时制作了系列专辑“亡命追缉令”，聚焦生活在英国社会边缘的人群。

　　1996年－Discovery探索频道委托南非的导演新人制作了六集系列专辑“南非视界”，探讨南非在废除种族隔离政策之后所面临的社会状况。

　　1998年－来自德国的六名年轻制片人拍摄了系列专辑“铁幕重生”，描绘了柏林墙倒塌后德国社会的人生百态。

　　2000年初－欧洲Discovery探索频道委托才华横溢的荷兰制片人，制作了一部有关环保主义者的系列专辑“生态奇兵”。

　　2000年9月－“新锐导演计划” 首次登陆亚太区。澳大利亚制作的系列专辑“南方新视野”展映了六部纪实片，重点报道了当代澳大利亚人的激情与困惑。

　　2001年12月－系列专辑“新锐导演精选：亚洲新展望”在亚洲播出，反映了六个不同亚洲国家及地区的传统和文化以及现代科技进步所带来的冲击。

　　2002年3月－以“现代化对新世纪人们生活的影响”为主题，Discovery探索亚洲网络在中国（包括香港、澳门特别行政区）推展“新锐导演计划”。

　　2003年9月－六部由中国新锐导演制作的纪实短片，“新锐导演精选：中国新展望”在亚洲地区首映。这部系列专辑以现代科技进步对中国文化和传统的冲击为主题，充分体现出丰富多彩的故事性和中国新人的创造力，同时也把他们独特的眼光和视角带给数以千万计的Discovery探索频道观众。此次活动共收到四百多份提案。

　　Discovery Networks Asia’s First Time Film-makers was first initiated by Discovery Networks International in 1995.

　　Prior to Asia, First Time Film-makers productions have taken place in South Africa, East Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Australia.

　　Many past participants are now established film-makers in their own right.

　　Landmark:

　　In 1995 - Discovery Channel’s First-Time Film-makers first debuted in Europe with a series entitled Outlaws, which focused on people in the United Kingdom who live on the fringes of society.

　　In 1996 - Discovery Channel commissioned South African Visions, a six-part series produced by emerging film-makers from South Africa that took a look at contemporary issues in post-apartheid South Africa.

　　In 1998 - New Kids on the Bloc saw six young producers from Germany examine issues facing society in post-Berlin Wall Germany.

　　In early 2000 - Discovery Channel Europe commissioned ECO WARRIORS featuring the talents of talented Dutch producers in a series about environmental activism.

　　In September 2000 - Australia’s First Time Filmmakers initiative, Southern Exposure, is a Discovery Channel Australia/New Zealand production, produced in association with the South Australian Film Corporation. Southern Exposure showcased six films focused on contemporary Australian passions and issues.

　　In December 2001 – Asia’s First Time Film-Makers: Past Forward featured a spectrum of traditions and cultures of six different Asian countries and the impact of modernization and technological advancement.

　　In March 2002 – Discovery Networks Asia, announced the launch of “First Time Film-makers”, with the theme of the “impact of modernization on the lives of the people in this new century”, in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), including the Special Administrative Region (SAR).

　　In September 2003 – six short films produced by emerging filmmakers from China, the First Time Film-Makers Series China: Past Forward, were premiered in Asia. This series address the impact of modernization and technological advancement on Chinese cultures and traditions, illustrate the rich tapestry of stories and creative new talent in China and bring their unique visions and perspectives to millions of Discovery Channel viewers. More than 400 entries were received.
