Vikram Channa joined Discovery Networks Asia in November 1995 as producer - On-Air Promotions and was responsible for developing the on-air packaging for Discovery Channel across the Asia Pacific region, including India. In that role, he was also involved in localizing and customizing short-form programming content across the region.
In 1999, Vikram was promoted to senior producer where he was an integral part of the team that developed the on-air branding and positioning of Animal Planet, a joint venture between the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) and Discovery Channel. He subsequently moved to Programming as senior manager, Programme Evaluation and Development. In March 2002, he was promoted to executive producer of Programming, when Discovery Networks Asia increased its investment in the local documentaries production in the region as part of its efforts to customize its content. Now as director of Production, Vikram is currently responsible for supervising all local productions from the Asia Pacific region to meet the high production standards associated with Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Discovery Travel and Adventure.
Vikram brings with him extensive production experience. He began his working career in India as an independent producer where he worked in news for New Delhi Television, India’s premier news content provider. He directed short environmental films for the “Wildlife Protection Society of India” on a grant from the UK-based Rufford Foundation. One of these films “Bones of Contention” went on to highlight internationally the crisis faced by Bengal Tigers due to illegal trade in animal parts. It was shown on National Television on Environment Day. He also did a stint with the Times of India, India’s largest news daily as a consultant on a special project called “Newspaper in Education”.
He has also won numerous awards awards for his brand campaigns and documentaries for Discovery Networks Asia including the prestigious Promax International.
Vikram has a Masters in both History and Film and Television Production from New Delhi, India. He recently finished his MBA at the Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago.
