Riccardo Tozzi founded Cattleya in 1997 while Head of Production for Mediaset, having first created that role in 1986.
For the twelve years afterwards he was responsible for several of that era's most successful Italian TV productions, including Mamma Lucia (starring Sophia Loren), Franco Rossi's A Child Named Jesus , The Count of Monte Cristo and many others. As supervising producer on behalf of Mediaset he was also responsible for the feature films Saturday, Sunday and Monday Night directed by Lina Wertmuller, Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre , Bernardo Bertolucci's Besieged and Martin Scorsese's documentary on the history of Italian cinema, Il Dolce Cinema .
From 1975 to 1985, Riccardo was Head of Sales at Sacis (RAI), for which he oversaw the co-production and international sales of a great number of films, many of which were the most successful Italian productions of their time. Among the films: the Taviani Brothers' Padre Padrone (1977 Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or), Ermanno Olmi's The Tree of the Wooden Clogs (1978 Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or), Federico Fellini's Orchestra Rehearsal , and Michelangelo Antonioni's Identification of a Woman . Among the TV productions were Marco Polo , Christopher Columbus and Italian TV's most successful series, The Octopus .
Riccardo is the point around which all of Cattleya's activities revolve: from the identification of new projects through their development, to the management and care of the company's contacts – writers, directors, agents, the press, professional associations and the government – through the delicate, technical-artistic phase of post-production.
