Beijing Quju Opera Arts Center
In 1952, “Beijing Quju” was named by the people’s artist Mr. Lao She. And Beijing, the famous city with thousands of years of history and culture,has its own type of local poera.
Since it came into force, with particular emphasis on the profound urban culture, Beijing Quju opera has continued to make breakthrough and innovation. The singing draws monochord tune for the basic music material. Based upon Mandarin, the remarks of Beijing Quju opera highlight features of Beijing dialect with strong local accents. Out of stylized imprisonment of the traditional opera, performances are close to life and reality. Theme stresses are put on reflecting life in Beijing over the Qing Dynasty, recent and modern times, with repertoires of other themes as a backup.
In the past 60 years, Beijing Quju Opera Arts Center has produced nearly 200 plays, many excellent dramas among which with integration of ideological content, artistic nature and appreciation won “Five-One Project Prize” from the Ministry of Publicity of the Central Committee and “Wenhua Prize for Original Play” from Ministry of Culture etc. Nowadays, The Scholar and the Serving Maid, Lovers Destiny, Consort Zhen’s Tears, Son of Heaven, Snuff Bottle, Longxugou Ditch, The Teahouse, Beneath the Red Banner etc. have become classical among Beijing Quju opera.
