Beijing Contemporary Dance Theatre is founded with the attentions and instructions from the officers at all levels from the Beijing Municipal Administration of Culture and Beijing Municipal Civil Administration. It is the trust and help from our friends who love contemporary dance that has helped us embark on the journey to pursue our dreams. Together with all my dancers and collaborators, with our passion and creativity, we will paint the future of the Beijing Contemporary Dance Theatre.

一切行为、现象都在某一刻空间里发生、发展和结束 。 一滴水、一粒沙、一线光、一丝风的搅动、一次肌肤的相触、一抹青黛色浮云……

Sometime, someday
The dancers going across the empty stage in the twinkling of an eye, all start to breathe as one, open a diary to record the moment.
All actions and phenomena happened, developed and ended now in this space. A drop of water, a grain of sand, a ray of light, a slight stir of wind, a touch of body, an indigo cloud……

舞台上有着极大的虚无与限制，舞者的内心，有着各种不定的也许⋯⋯也许跃起的一瞬间，有着对遥远童年的眷恋，也许在音乐飘过耳际的那刻，是今晨落叶的声音，也许是手臂划过舞台灯光染过的那片色彩时看见了台下观众眼中那一首歌。节奏和身体在黑暗的空间中交错，破空的声音恍若隔世的低吟。
There a great amount of emptiness and restrictions on stage, there is a variety of uncertainty in the heart of the dancer……perhaps a moment of jumping is the attachment for the distant childhood, perhaps a piece of melody is the voice of the fallen leaves in the morning, perhaps an arm across the colorful light of stage is a song in the minds of the audience. Rhythm and body staggered in a dark space, sounds like an elusive chant from centuries ago.

从无到有，空的空间里留下了经过的痕迹，人们积累了许多的过去，而过去，却也毫不留情地划上人生的印记，从一个人走向另一个人，也把这一条印记烙在了那一片印迹上。诚然，生命不肯妥协，而梦想，却被弥留在记忆的碎片中……
Growing out of nothing, traces of passing left in empty space, people have their past, and the past drawn an imprint of life with no mercy, walking from one person to another, which also leaves a mark on that. Truly, life refuses to compromise, while the dream fading away in the fragments of memory.

中国现代舞蹈的领军人物。
先后毕业于北京舞蹈学院编导系和美国加州艺术学院编导专业，获硕士学位。
曾任中央芭蕾舞团常驻团编导；丹麦皇家芭蕾舞团特邀编导；香港演艺学院特邀编导；纽约城市芭蕾舞团编导学院编导；上海芭蕾舞团特邀编导；天津芭蕾舞团特邀编导。
曾荣获法国国际舞蹈比赛、保加利亚瓦尔纳国际芭蕾舞比赛 、美国杰克逊国际芭蕾舞比赛、俄罗斯国际芭蕾舞比赛、上海国际芭蕾舞比赛的最佳编舞奖，成为第一个赢得四次国际最佳编舞大奖的中国编导。

2001年，与中国著名电影导演张艺谋导演合作，被邀请成为《大红灯笼高高挂》芭蕾剧的舞蹈编导。并在北京，上海，香港，新加坡，英国，意大利，美国，澳大利亚进行了世界巡回演出。并获得中国国家舞台艺术精品工程奖。
1999年，在国际电脑音乐节担任舞蹈总监，创作了《血》和《异域之光》
1999年，成为中央芭蕾舞团常驻特邀舞蹈编导，创作《梁祝》，在人民大会堂纪念中央芭蕾舞团四十年庆典上首演。同年后期， 《胡桃夹子》以及《夜之虹》、《落情》等。 1997年，创作《牵引》并指导学生参加第七届法国巴黎国际舞蹈比赛获得现代舞银奖。
1995年，被邀请为联合国第四届国际妇女大会的开幕式做编舞。
She is a leading contemporary dance choreographer in China.
Graduated from the Choreography Department of Beijing Dance Academy, then taught contemporary dance and choreography there and thought highly for carefulness, preciseness and creativeness in teaching.
In addition to carrying a full teaching load, she helped design the Academy’s contemporary dance curriculum, and won high honors for the school as a dancer and choreographer at international competitions in Shanghai, Seoul, Paris and Moscow. In 1995, she was invited to choreograph for the opening ceremony of the 4th International Women’s Conference.
In 1998, Ms. Wang was named the resident choreographer for the National Ballet of China. Since then, she has choreographed Nutcracker, Rainbow of the Night, Butterfly Lover, Lost Emotion and so on. Because of her achievement, she was invited by Mr. Peter Martins to be the guest choreographer of New York City Ballet in 2003. During this period, she continued to choreograph China’s entries at the Grand Prix ballet competitions, namely，Bulgaria Varna IBC(International Ballet Competition), France IBC, US Jackson IBC and Russia IBC. Competing against more than 100 choreographers from around the world each time, she was the first in China’s history to earn the top prize for choreography an unprecedented four times, most recently in Bulgaria’s 2004 competition.
In addition to creating new works for the Chinese team in international competitions, Ms. Wang also developed acclaimed new pieces for the National Ballet to perform at home. In 1999, her new piece Butterfly Lover premiered in the People’s Hall for the 40th anniversary of the National Ballet. Later that year she created an original Chinese version of Nutcracker.
She expanded beyond choreography when produced Beijing’s International Computer Music Conference in 1999. She choreographed two new dances herself: Al Nur and Blod. The show was critically acclaimed, and promoted by the prestigious China National Performing Artists Agency.
In the year 2000, Ms. Wang was accepted into the prestigious Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program at the California Institute of Arts (Cal Arts) School of Dance in Los Angeles. During her two years there, she taught modern dance, and choreographed Reflection and A Song of Four Seasons in student showcases.
She returned to China after graduation, where she re-joined the National Ballet as resident choreographer. She was immediately asked to be the choreographer of the National Ballet’s Raise the Red Lantern, a full-length ballet directed by the famous Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou. The result won rave reviews, and proceeded to tour extensively with performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Paris, and London. The production is now on an extensive tour throughout China, and was traveling to cities across Japan, New York, Washington DC and California in 2005.
She was invited by the HongKong Academy for Performing Art, School of Dance, and choreographed Reminisce, which received broad appraisal. She also choreographed for many great companies in China，such as The conversation with Chopin，Shanghai Ballet，Night Start，Tianjin Ballet and Water from Haven，a dance drama for Gui Zhou.
2005 She invited by Chinese famous film director Feng Xiaogang， choreographed for movie The Banquet The music composed by Tan Dun.
Ms. Wang has also been commissioned to create a new piece the Color of Love for the Royal Danish Ballet, which performed at Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in 2006. In 2007, she became the choreographer of contemporary dance drama "Stirred from a Dream" which was a modern interpretation of the famous traditional play "The Peony Pavilion".
In 2008, she took part in the choreographer team for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony performance, and created "Crossing" for Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

陈雨黎，籍贯北京，从小在中国著名音乐作曲家的家庭里长大。在雨黎六岁的时候，他在巴黎与父母相聚。在此期间，他在巴黎继续了音乐学习，发现自己对西方流行和摇滚乐文化兴趣浓厚。另外，在15年古典教育后，雨黎在环球唱片和法国华纳唱片担任了各种有创作性和管理性的职位，然后决定前往纽约深造，提高自己在音乐制作工程方面的技能。回到中国后，雨黎跟随老牌的制作工程师继续他的学习，尤其著名的有John Jansen (Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Lou Reed, The Who), Michael White (Whitney Houston, James Taylor), Jay Messina (Aerosmith, Kiss, Supertramp), John Siket (Dave Matthews Band, Moe, Sonic Youth) and Jean-Benoit Dunckel of the French Electronic Duo Air。从2007年，雨黎重返北京，与张艺谋导演密切合作，为北京2008年奥林匹克运动会开幕式创作了吸引人的中西方碰撞的音乐作品。除了奥运会的工作，雨黎迅速确立了自己的工作方向，就是作为一个值得信赖的摇滚音乐制作人，他个人令人期待的最新专辑将在明年推出。
Chen Yuli was born in Beijing, and was raised by a family of musicians and composers with great influence in China. At the age of 6, he joined his parents in Paris. While pursuing his musical education at the Paris conservatory, he discovered he had a strong interest in western pop and rock culture. In addition, after 15 years of rich classical education, he held various creative and managerial positions at Universal Music and Warner Music France before deciding to move to New York to improve his producing and sound engineering skills. Before returning to China, he learned his skills from established producers/engineers, notably John Jansen (Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Lou Reed, The Who), Michael White (Whitney Houston, James Taylor), Jay Messina (Aerosmith, Kiss, Supertramp), John Siket (Dave Matthews Band, Moe, Sonic Youth) and Jean-Benoit Dunckel of the French Electronic Duo Air.
Since 2007, he is back in Beijing and recorded, mixed and produced the music for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony working closely with Director Zhang Yimou to create a fascinating score where east meets west.
Besides working for the Olympics, he quickly established himself as a trusted rock music producer and is working on several of the most anticipated albums to be released next year.

Joewi Verhoeven / Composer
来自荷兰的中伟，他的母亲是中国作家，父亲是荷兰人。中伟在15岁的时候开始用钢琴和吉他开始创作，那时他还在荷兰。在他高中毕业以后到了中国在北京电影学院学习中文和电影。他空闲的时候录制一些具有奇特感染力的lofi独立流行作品。目前他的乐队"欲望之箭"刚刚结束全国巡演，而且他们明年即将出版第二张专辑。
The son of a Dutch food-supplier father and a Chinese writer mother, Joewi Verhoeven began writing songs on piano and guitar at the ripe old age of 15 while growing up in the small Dutch town of Zeeland. Upon graduating high school he packed up and caught the first flight to Beijing, China to study Mandarin and film directing at the Beijing Film Academy. In his free time he manages to record infectiously peculiar lo-fi indie-pop. He is now active with his band Arrows Made of Desire who just got back from an extensive tour through China and will be releasing their second album (that goes by the title Songs That Sell Out) in the beginning of next year.

王之一，1980年出生于江苏苏州，从小学习音乐，1993年以总分第一考入上海音乐学院附中作曲系，随后获全额奖学金赴美国奥伯林音乐学院和路易威尔大学深造，获得作曲本科和硕士学位。2006年受聘回国担任上海歌剧院驻团作曲家。07年受聘为奥运会开幕式音乐总监陈其钢先生的创作助理，创作和编配了包括主题歌《我和你》等多首开幕式乐曲。其音乐多次获得奖项和荣誉，包括意大利李斯特国际作曲比赛最高奖，格文美尔基金等。
Born in 1980, Zhiyi Wang obtained Bachelor and Master degrees in music composition from Oberlin Conservatory and University of Louisville. His music has received many honors, including the top prize in the Premio Franz Liszt International Competition for Composers and Grawemeyer Fellowship, among others. Recently he composed and orchestrated several programs，including the theme song You and Me, for the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympics, and he now is Composer-in–Residence at Shanghai Opera House.

As a young sound designer , he gained a great deal of experience working with the National Ballet on tour show around the world, including China, France, Britain, Italy, the United States, Australia, South Korea, Singapore and other countries. Through continuous study and practice he becomes a professional, received recognition and praise, particularly prominent in audio system design and sound engineering.

谭韶远不仅在舞台美术设计上有出色的作品，同时在戏剧灯光、戏剧多媒体等相关舞台视觉艺术方面都有独特的创造与见解。
自大学时代开始就与重量级的戏剧导演和创作班底进行合作。有幸参与歌剧《图兰朵》，美国林肯艺术中心的全本《牡丹亭》，北京人艺的林版《茶馆》，《风月无边》，林兆华戏剧工作室的《三姊妹、等待戈多》，《理查德三世》等舞台作品的设计工作，在实习和学习过程中得到了重要的锻炼，积累了丰富的舞台经验。

毕业于中央戏剧学院舞台美术系，2002年起任中国国家芭蕾舞团驻团灯光设计。
作为中国年轻一代的设计师活跃在舞台设计领域近十年，取得了不俗的成绩和声誉。灯光设计作品涉及领域宽泛，而其在现代舞蹈和话剧中的表现更是可圈可点，作品风格冷酷而富有创造力，冷静独到的思维令其在舞台空间的视觉表现中自由而准确。
在初期创作中就已经显露其对作品独到的解读，2001年设计了由中央戏剧学院演出的《大神布朗》和《如梦之梦》，2002年作为舞美和灯光设计创作了《我容易嘛我》和《流星雨》。
2003年的首届北京国际音乐节中由林兆华执导郭文景作曲的两部歌剧《夜宴》、《狂人日记》，他以大气幽深的空间展示了光在歌剧密境中的神奇作用，之后长期与林兆华合作，合作作品有2004年中国国家话剧院演出的《厕所》，2006年北京人民艺术剧院演出的《白鹿原》，林兆华戏剧工作室演出的《娜拉的儿女》和《建筑大师》，2007年中国国家话剧院演出的《活着还是死去》，皇家粮仓演出的昆曲《牡丹亭》。
在与不同风格的导演合作中，他保持对戏剧独到的见解和对空间的探求，2003年首次接触导演李六乙，协助其完成了巾帼英雄三部曲的首部《穆桂英》，2005年正式合作了倍具争议的诗剧《口供》，此剧中光的空间冷峻，严肃，直至2008年，李六乙导演执导了中国国家芭蕾舞团的《牡丹亭》，在《牡丹亭》中他与导演的风格再一次碰撞出火花，整剧色调高级，空间创意与舞剧气质浑然一体。
2002年自戏剧学院毕业进入国家芭蕾舞团开始着手各式风格的芭蕾舞台空间的创作，除了执行设计舞团各种保留剧目的巡演外，还参与了新剧目的创作，其中不乏世界各流派的舞蹈作品。设计的大型剧目有《淚泉》、《天鵝湖》（03年新版和07年玛卡洛娃版）、《海盗》、《仙女》、《吉賽爾》、《希尔薇亚》、《牡丹亭》，现代舞蹈作品有《落情》、《剑魂》、《婆莱罗》等十几部。其间随舞团访问了美国、墨西哥、澳大利亚、俄罗斯、英国、韩国、日本等国家。
与现代舞蹈的接触始于时任国家芭蕾舞团的驻团编导王媛媛，合作始于2004年为舞团创作的《落情》和《剑魂》，之后一起创作了北京舞蹈学院演出的《不定空间》，香港演艺学院演出的《梨花梦徊》、上海芭蕾舞团演出的《对话肖邦》等作品，06年的大型舞剧《红色1935》和丹麦皇家芭蕾舞团演出的《情色》，07年联合出品创作了现代舞剧作品《惊梦》。
设计作品还有音乐剧、儿童剧和戏曲等门类，如03年的音乐剧《你是否听到我们的声音》，04年的儿童剧《迷宫》和花鼓戏《老骆轶事》，07年的评剧《皆大欢喜》，08年的话剧《市井三国》，谭盾歌剧《门》等。
Graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Stage Design, he became the lighting designer of the National Ballet of China in 2002.
As one of the younger generation of Chinese designers, he is active in the field of stage design for nearly 10 years and receives good reputation. His work in modern dance and drama are remarkable, cool and creative, which let him free and accurate in visual expression.
He has made unique interpretation of the original scripts in early works, designed for The Great God Brown and Dream like a Dream at the Central Academy of Drama in 2001, and did set and lighting design for Hard Life and Meteor Shower in 2002.
In 2003, he designed for opera The Banquet and Diary of a Madman at the 1st Beijing Music Festival in Beijing, with director Lin Zhaohua and composer Guo Wenjing, showing the magic of light in opera through gorgeous space.
During the long-term cooperation with Lin Zhaohua, he designed for modern drama Toilet of the National Theatre of China in 2004, White Deer Plain of the Beijing People's Art Theatre in 2006, Kids of Nora and Architect Master with Lin’s drama studio, Dead or Alive the National Theatre of China in 2007, The Peony Pavilion at the Imperial Granary.
With different directors, he maintained insights and exploration on the space, with director Li Liuyi, designed for the first play Mu Guiying of his hero trilogy in 2003, the light in space was cold and serious.
Since 2002 he started to design in different styles for the National Ballet, including repertory for tour and new shows, such as The Fountain of Bakhchisaray, Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, Giselle, Sylvia, The Peony Pavilion and Bolero, showed the United States, Mexico, Australia, Russia, Britain, South Korea, Japan and other countries.
He began to design for modern dance with Ms. Wang Yuanyuan, a choreographer from the National Ballet in 2004. They created Love and Soul of Sword together, then Unsteady Space for Beijing Dance Academy, Flower Dream for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, The Conversation with Chopin for the Shanghai Ballet, the Color of Love for the Royal Danish Ballet in 2006, Stirred from a Dream in 2007.
He also designed for musical, opera, children's drama and so on, such as musical Do you hear our voices in 2003, children's drama Labyrinth in 2004, Flower drum song Laoluo’s Anecdotes, Ping opera As You Like It in 2007, drama New Three Kingdoms and Tan Dun’ opera the Gate in 2008.

Director Lin Zhaohua received his degree from the Department of Acting of the Central Academy of Drama. He began his career in the arts in 1961.He is now a director and the vice president of the Beijing People’s Art Theatre and a standing member of the board of trustees for the China Association of Theatre Artists.

北京当代芭蕾舞团将积极参与慈善和公益文化事业，提高文化品质、树立文明风尚，是该团重要的责任和追求理念。
Under direct control of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Culture, Beijing Contemporary Dance Theatre (BCDT) was established in April 2008 in Beijing at the sanction of the Beijing Municipal Civil Administration. Founded with the attentions and instructions from the officers at all levels from the Beijing Municipal Administration of Culture and Beijing Municipal Civil Administration and support from all circles of the society, the BCDT is the first troupe of contemporary dance in China.
As an increasingly important form of dance, contemporary dance exceeds the traditional body language of classical ballet. It has also integrated and absorbed the essence of diverse modern art forms, which renders it representative of the times and distinct of style.
The BCDT cherishes a grand artistic tenet: calling for inspiration, and pursuing continuous betterment. A key mission for the BCDT is to introduce the elaborate artistic works of contemporary dance in China to the world stage.
The BCDT will become a new cultural symbol of Beijing to the world as well as a good-will ambassador to drive Beijing’s cultural construction and international cultural exchange.
The BCDT will cooperate with world-famous dance artists and organizations via domestic and overseas tours, international art forums and international dance festivals. Through these channels, the BCDT will present modern ballet both Chinese and international to a broad audience base, at the same time promoting contemporary dance as a unique genre in China.
The BCDT will take an active role in cultural activities in favor of charity and public interest. The theatre’s vision also incorporates cultivating growing appreciation for the arts amongst the population.
